Trek smashes the notion of what fast can be with the Emonda SLR 8. With a frame weight of just 690 grams, the Emonda leaves other bikes at the bottom of the climb. And that's only part of the story. Light is meaningless if the ride isn't there. The geometry was tweaked with direct pro racer feedback so it's crisp, tight and aggressive. Trek does carbon like no one else, so it's stiff where you demand it, and smooth where you need it. One ride and you find yourself going a little faster, leaning into those corners a little more, and taking the long way home every time. A full Dura-Ace drivetrain and Bonty Speed Stop brakes grace the frame, and you splinter the pack with Race X Lite wheels. Two fits are available, H1 for flexible, aggressive riders and racers, while the H2 provides a slightly more upright fit. The Emonda is Trek's benchmark for fast, get used to waiting for others.
For increased stiffness and improved steering precision, tapered head tubes (see image, on left) and forks pair an oversize lower steerer tube (usually 1 1/2-inch, see image, on right) with a standard diameter upper steerer tube (usually 1 1/8-inch). This combination sheds weight compared to straight 1 1/2-inch systems, and adds stability and stiffness when compared to straight 1 1/8-inch systems. The result is a bike that tracks better through corners while allowing for the use of standard stems.

I owned a 5500 for about 12 years and while it was still a very usable bike, I decided that I needed to consider a replacement. This is a superlight bike, great wheelset, I have about 500 miles on it and have no regrets. The geometry was basically the same (H1) as my 5500, so the transition was easy.

I have put about 600 miles on this bike since I got it a couple months ago. It rides very well and the wheel set is super quiet. Overall, I think the bike is sub 15 pounds with pedals, Garmin mount, water cages and saddle bag. I can't ask for much more! All of the carbon parts are super light and the guys at Woodbury did a great job putting the bike together. Thank you!
